Local artist Ochre Lawson releases new children's book 'My Australian Alphabet’
Having trouble finding Australian content for teaching young children to read? Look no further. Local artist Ochre Lawson, passionate about teaching kids about Australian animals and plants has produced her first book “My Australian Alphabet”.

“The inspiration for the book came after trying to find a book with Australian content for my niece and nephew. Most children will know what a Zebra is but not a numbat or quoll, and for that matter, it’s the same for many adults! Teaching art to young children, I know they love animals and particularly Australian animals, and so the idea was born,” says Ochre, “I am passionate about our incredibly ancient and unique environment we have here in Australia and I am passionate about educating our next generation to know about our country through art.”

‘Shorties’ owner Celia Morris said “When Ochre brought in her children’s book of Australian plants and animals, I knew it was perfect for our store. Shorties supports handmade and handcrafted products made in small runs by local designers with all our clothes, toys and books and Ochre’s book was a standout in relation to being beautifully illustrated and educational”.

Each picture has been hand illustrated with luscious colours in ink and watercolour, from C for Cockatoo to Z for Zebra Finch. The official launch and signing copies of  ‘My Australian Alphabet’ will be this month at inner-west children’s store.
Ochre will be sitting at ‘Shorties’ 537 King St, Newtown
this Thursday 27th of November between 6pm and 8pm,
ready to sign your copy of ‘My Australian Alphabet’.
Copies of the book will also be available for sale on the night.
The book has been published by independent publisher ‘Windy Hollow Books’ and has national release.
