Shortie's 'Courtesy Aunt' makes her 1st entry into the world (as does her 1st niece!)

Hello everyone, and welcome to my first blog entry as the Shortie’s ‘Courtesy Aunt’!

As you know, Shortie’s isn’t just about mums and dads; it’s a whole world of delight for grandmas and grandpas, aunts and uncles, godparents and friends. As a real-life aunty, there’s nothing I love more than going into Shortie’s and taking in all the gorgeous treats for my beloved nephews (Thomas, 9; Harry, 7; Angus, 2) and JUST LAST THURSDAY, a little niece! Yes, t’was a most wonderful day. ‘No Name’ was born at 6am in the car. Outside the hospital. Caught by my brother. No word of a lie. ‘Howzat!’ for all those cricket balls he caught in his youff, culminating in the most important catch of all!

My sister-in-law, Sarah, woke up at 4.30am that morning with labour pains. They bundled young Gussie in the backseat and sped up King Street, Newtown (past Shortie’s,of course!) to the hospital, only to get stuck behind an Australia Post van (doubtless en route for a rather less-important delivery of its own).

Sarah is amazing. She knew the baby was on its way on the drive to the hospital and somehow managed to keep her cool. Meanwhile, as ‘No Name’ made her dramatic entry into the world, Gussie sat calmly in the backseat sucking on his dummy. Bless.

So, what to give a girl who has (almost) nothing? Well, I bought a set of adorable ‘Baby Jane’ socks, a ‘Littlehorn’ onesie and a gorgeous, handmade ‘Two Windmills’ rattle. Divine.

But the pièce de résistance has to go to my parents who, amongst other things, are giving ‘No Name’ a pink onesie with the words ‘Born Awesome’ on it.

Sums it up perfectly, really.
